Nelson Netball CCA2 weekend written by Kiana Gallon

The weekend of April 13th and 14th saw the Nelson Netball Centre host an immensely successful CCA2 event. Netball Mainland's Coach/ Umpire Lead Kelly Bodger, NetballSmart Kiana Gallon, and Netball New Zealand's coaching expert Leigh Gibbs delivered the opportunity with their valuable insights.

A gathering of 10 coaches representing various Clubs/ Centre's and performance levels convened for the community coaching framework weekend. They came eager to extend their coaching development through a series of modules covering diverse topics such as Tournament Planning and Preparation, Through Court Attack and Defense, Mental Skills, and a Game Analysis session, using the Mystic match against Magic live coverage as a focus tool.

A specific module during the event is Developing Physical Capability (DPC), tailored to NetballSmart education. This module aimed to equip coaches with the knowledge and skills needed to incorporate basic performance enhancing concepts into their coaching repertoire. The focus addressed the six fundamental principles of NetballSmart: Smart preparation, smart warm-up and cool-down, smart movement, smart training, smart injury management, and smart player wellbeing. These resources were educated to enrich their coaching knowledge, capturing the essence of developing their coaches, Kete.

Special appreciation to Ani Waitai, the General Manager of Nelson Netball Centre, for her support in advancing the skill set of coaches across the Top of the South region. Additionally, congratulations are extended to all the coaches who participated, acknowledging their dedication and eagerness to enhance their expertise.
