Good Sports aims to create positive sporting experiences for children and young people by supporting and educating parents, caregivers, coaches, teachers, and sports leaders who all contribute to children's sports. Netball is one of the national sports organizations that promotes the Good Sports philosophy.
Good Sports is a partnership with Aktive and Sport New Zealand, funded by the New Zealand Community Trust and AUT. Both practitioners and research agree that many issues in youth sports stem from adult involvement. These issues include poor sideline behaviour, overuse injuries, burnout, and disaffection with sport, all of which can hinder success on and off the netball court.
To address these issues and help children and young people develop a lifelong love of sport, Good Sports focuses on raising adults’ awareness about their behaviours in youth sports.
Centres will soon receive videos and information to be shared on social media to raise awareness within the netball community.
