Secondary school players from around the country will be put to the test in three regionalised development camps in January.
Ninety players have been invited to take part in the National Development Camp programme which will see selected netballers travelling to Auckland, Hastings or Ashburton to be put through various court sessions and workshops over three days.
Selection for the programme was based on nominations from Zones along with tracking by the Netball NZ Emerging Talent Panel Selectors throughout this season and previous years.
Thirty players from the Upper North Island region will gather in Auckland from 12-14 January and another 30 players from the South Island will be in Ashburton from 17-19 January. The final camp for the Lower North Island area takes place in Hastings from 24-26 January.
NZSS head coach Jo Morrison, who will lead the programme and is supported by Synergy Hair National Netball League coaches and NetballSmart Staff, said the National Development Camp programme would challenge the athletes on and off the court and was an important insight into becoming a performance netballer.
“Over each of the three-day camps, players will undergo a series of movement competency screenings, fitness testing, skill sessions, position-specific sessions and match play,” she said.
“The aim of the camp is to educate, grow and challenge, to help improve individual skillsets, but also for players to gain an understanding of the expectations to be a performance netballer.”
