The National Development Camp (NDC) is the first step in a players Netball New Zealand Pathway journey. For observation coaches attending the event, it is all about creating connections and opportunities for coaches to develop and grow their capabilities in an action learning environment. This camp is used to provide a rich, immersive experience that enhances coaching skills and fosters a supportive community of learning.
Programme Objectives:
Observe Performance Coaches: Participants will have the chance to observe performance coaches in action, gaining insights into technical and tactical settings.
Identify Fundamental Skills: Coaches will learn to identify and understand the fundamental skill set requirements for individual secondary school players.
Encourage Learning Communities: The camp aims to create an open and supportive environment that encourages the formation of coaching communities of learning.
This year’s camp held in Ashburton, was well attended, with 15 observation coaches attending from both Mainland and South Zones. With the support of Leigh Gibbs (NNZ Community Coaching Manager), Denise Geayley (Coach Developer) and Kelly Bodger (Mainland Umpire and Coach Lead), a comfortable and supportive environment for learning and sharing was created.
By participating in the NDC in January 2025, coaches were not only able to enhance their technical knowledge but also build valuable connections with peers and mentors. This collaborative approach ensured that coaches are well-equipped to support the development of young athletes and contribute to the broader coaching community once they return to their own environments.
