The first Sports Canterbury Sports Development Connect event of the year was held at the end of February. It was beneficial to gather with representatives from various sporting codes, and great to have Netball represented in the room.
Hugh Galvan (from Sport New Zealand), presentation on the sports pathway framework was informative, but it also revealed the challenges we face in implementing a cohesive strategy across different sports. The framework is a great visual that highlights the need for our pathways to be flexible while catering for all participants needs – you can check it out here: https://youtu.be/N2QkixnOUw8
The group discussions among coaches were thought-provoking. Many productive ideas were shared, and the diversity of opinions highlighted the passion and commitment within our community. These discussions emphasised the importance of striving for more unified approaches and enhancing communication to better connect and engage with our audiences.
Overall, the event was an insightful experience, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges in our sports development efforts. We value being part of these gatherings, connecting with the broader sporting community, and collaborating across codes to support and enhance our development initiatives.
