New Initiative: 2nd Shot Shoes, Nelson – A Step Toward Sustainability written by Lou Milne

We’re excited to introduce a fantastic new initiative – 2nd Shot Shoes, created by Sophie Rankin from Garin College in Nelson. This innovative project is not only a step toward sustainability but also a wonderful example of how young people are making a positive impact on their community.

What is 2nd Shot Shoes?

2nd Shot Shoes is an eco-conscious initiative focused on giving preloved netball shoes a second life. The concept is simple: people donate their gently used netball footwear, and through a careful process of cleaning and cataloguing, these shoes are made ready for a new owner. This project helps reduce waste by reusing shoes that would otherwise end up in landfills, while also supporting our local netball community by making quality footwear accessible to those in need.

How Does it Work?

  1. Donation: Local individuals are encouraged to donate their preloved netball shoes to 2nd Shot Shoes.

  1. Refurbishment: Each pair of shoes undergoes a thorough cleaning process to restore them to as-good-as-new condition. The shoes are deodorised and sanitised to ensure they are safe and fresh for their next owner.

  1. Redistribution: The refurbished shoes are then made available, helping those who might not otherwise have access to quality netball shoes.

Join the Movement!

2nd Shot Shoes is a great example of how creativity and sustainability can come together to make a real difference. Whether you have shoes to donate or want to support this amazing project, you can be part of the movement toward a more sustainable future.

Let’s take a step toward sustainability, one pair of shoes at a time!
