Mainland SHNL update - written by Crystal Wilkinson

Our season is underway and what a start we have had with two wins from two games so far!

We have experienced aerial and dynamic defence down one end, with accurate and smart 2-point shooters down the other end and a fast, speedy mid-court linking both ends together.

With our management team staying the same from 2024 and half our players from last year coming back again, the links and connections have been strong from the start.

In our first game the Mainland team played WBOP in Hamilton on the 25th May, posting a score of 53 to WBOP's 46.

Our second game was played at Ngā Puna Wai on Sunday 1st June, against Auckland's Marvels. This was an exciting game to watch, with the scores relatively even heading into the final quarter. Our Mainland team was too strong in the final quarter, pulling away to take the game 54 over Marvels 41.

We have three more pool games left, with the team heading south this weekend to take on the Southern Blast in Invercargill. Following this, we have our curtain raiser game for the VIP Frames & Trusses Tactix on June 22nd, played at the Wolfbrook Arena. This game will be against the Comets who are currently sitting on top of the table.

Thank you to everyone who is making this a successful season and for all the hard work put in behind the scenes. Thank you also to our sponsors and fans – this season would not happen in the same way without you!!
