Netball New Zealand’s Year 7 & 8 Player Development Programmes are now well established across Netball Centres, offering a fresh and inclusive approach to growing great players.
These programmes replace the previous Year 7 & 8 representative structure, shifting the focus from selection to development. They’re designed to support the growth of young athletes both on and off the court, with a well-rounded approach that includes:
Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS): Building agility, balance, and coordination.
Physical Capacity: Developing strength, endurance, and overall fitness.
Skill Base & Game Understanding: Enhancing technical skills and tactical awareness.
Athlete Life & Sport Science Education: Covering key topics such as nutrition, wellbeing, goal setting, and injury prevention.
Many Netball Centres are offering these programmes during the school holidays, making it an ideal time for young players to get involved, stay active, and connect with others in a supportive learning environment.
By prioritising development over selection, NNZ is creating a more inclusive and empowering environment for young players to thrive. The programme is already making a positive impact, helping athletes build strong foundations for future success in sport and life.
