Off Season Planning: Strengthening the Backbone of Netball - written by Jacinda Valentine

The off-season is a crucial time for Centre administrators to prepare for the season ahead. Strategic planning now ensures smoother operations, stronger partnerships, and better outcomes for our netball community.

Key tasks include reviewing governance documents, with our Constitutions to be updated to align with the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 and then refining policies and procedures. It’s also the ideal time to assess funding needs, prepare grant applications, and complete accountability reporting for existing partnerships.

Facility planning, court maintenance, and equipment audits should be scheduled early to avoid in-season disruptions. Administrators can also use this time to connect with Councils, Regional Sports Trusts, and community partners to align on shared goals and upcoming initiatives.

Off-season is also a great opportunity to evaluate Centre performance, gather feedback from stakeholders, and plan professional development for staff and volunteers. Whether it’s streamlining registration systems, refreshing communication strategies, or scheduling Centre Manager meetings, thoughtful preparation now sets the tone for a successful season.

Behind every great netball season is a well-prepared team of administrators, working hard to build, strengthen, and support the game we love.
