Coaches and Umpires engaged in the NNZ Coach Development Framework and NNZ Umpire Accreditation Framework undertook 3 days of impactful learning under the leadership of Leigh Gibbs, NNZ Community Coach Manager (supported by Denise Geayley, Coach Developer) at the South Island National Development Camp from the 16-18 January in Ashburton.
The purpose of the Observation Program was to create connections and opportunities for coaches and umpires to develop and grow their capability by participating in an action learning secondary school performance setting.
As most national training environments are closed, the group were especially appreciative of Nicky Cattermoul (NNZ Pathway Manager) and Jo Morrison (NZSS Head Coach) for allowing access to the on-court sessions and hearing from the support staff working with the athletes, including Netball Smart, NZSS Physio, NNZ Pathway Selectors and Tactix athlete Josie Seymour. Anna Kennedy’s (Mainland NNL Assistant Coach) shared her expertise as a Head Coach for the Program, while Krissy Griggs undertook an Apprentice Coach role. The Mainland Umpire Squad was also in action, umpiring game play and participating in development activities led by Sheena Tyrrell.
To apply for the Observation Program in 2027, keep an eye out for more details from NNZ towards the end of the year.
