Exciting Launch: METS Pathway Opens New Doors for Our Wahine - written by Jane Fouracre-Wilson

We are thrilled to officially launch METS, a brand‑new opportunity designed to give our wāhine another exciting pathway to learn, grow, and perform in a fresh and supportive environment.

Over recent weeks, we’ve shared this initiative and its purpose with our centres and promoted it widely across our social media channels. The response has been encouraging, we’ve had interest from nearly every corner of Mainland, which once again shows the passion, talent, and enthusiasm within our netball community.

What makes this campaign even more special is the calibre of people involved. We’re fortunate to have coaches and managers who are progressing through their own development pathways, working alongside experienced coaches and specialists in performance sport. This blend of emerging talent and seasoned expertise will provide an exceptional environment for our athletes.

To showcase this exciting new programme, we have three upcoming playing opportunities, and we warmly invite our entire Mainland Netball whānau to come along and support our athletes. All matches will be played against Steel Steps, a group that also features players at various stages of their development, making for competitive and inspiring netball.

Upcoming METS Fixtures

  • 2 May – Invercargill, 5:00pm
Invercargill Netball Centre, Surrey Park Road – curtain raiser to the Steel game
  • 7 June – Queenstown
Queenstown Events Centre – Time TBC
  • 16 August – Christchurch
Christchurch Netball Centre – Time TBC

If interest continues to grow, these opportunities will only expand and we couldn’t be more excited.

We can’t wait to see you courtside, cheering on our wāhine as they take this next step in their journey. Mainland Netball is proud, energised, and ready for what’s ahead!
