The first METS game was held in front of an awesome and full crowd in Timaru on May 24th. To see these skillful women from across the South Island come together and play some fantastic netball reminded us all that the growth of our game is alive and well in our zones! While the score was secondary to athlete development, we were proud to come away with a win against the South 58-50.
The team came together quickly and really enjoyed playing at this high level. The squad is now made up of 23 players from across the Mainland, 12 of whom travelled to Queenstown last Sunday to play the South Squad. The team of 12 played some fantastic and skilful netball, ably lead by Head Coach Krissy Griggs and Assistant Coach Nic Sinclair. A number of combinations were tested and the girls thoroughly enjoyed representing Mainland in their new playing singlets. A big thank you to our Manager Cath Mulligan and to the South team and management of Kate Lloyd and Rachel Stead - we really enjoyed connecting and playing against you!
Following the girls trip to Queenstown we are really looking forward to our Nutrition workshop on the 10th June with Jess Moulds (former Silver Fern and now registered dietitian) and our Mental skills workshop with Ilia Lindsay (Family and Sports Psychologist) on the 25th June, focusing on the female performance athlete. The girls are all taking every opportunity on offer and we are proud to support this squad in their development both on and off the court.
