Netball Smart Update - September, written by Amelia Pasco

It has been a busy few months for Mainland NetballSmart Development Officer, Amelia Pasco, who has been out and about connecting with players, coaches, schools and communities across the region.

A key focus has been supporting players through the transition from 6v6 to 7v7 netball, helping participants understand the physical demands of the game and providing them with the tools to ensure they ingrain the habits of warming up and preparing for the game.

Alongside PDP workshops, Amelia has been delivering Walking Netball warm-up sessions, sharing the new Walking NetballSmart Dynamic Warm-Up developed in partnership with Sport Canterbury. The warm-up combines movements that prepare players for the game while supporting strength, balance and coordination, helping participants feel confident and ready to enjoy their time on court.

School visits have also been keeping the calendar full, with students engaging in NetballSmart education designed to help young players heading to SISS give themselves the best chance of performing well and staying injury-free during tournament. Through interactive activities and practical learning, students have been exploring how effective warm-up, recovery, and nutrition strategies can enhance performance while also helping to reduce injury risk.

One of the highlights of the role is connecting directly with communities and seeing participants take ownership of their development. Whether it is a Walking Netball session, a PDP workshop or a school visit, it is rewarding to see people leave with knowledge and practical tools they can use straight away.
