Honouring the Past and Strengthening Our Sporting Future

The story behind the name Ngā Puna Wai means “many spring waters,” a reference to the numerous springs and tributaries that flow through the area. Set within the ancestral landscape of Ngāi Tahu, this was once a place where local Māori gathered to connect and collaborate. That same spirit continues today, as communities from across Canterbury come together here to share their love of sport, recreation, and connection.

A world-class home for sport Covering 32 hectares beside Canterbury Agricultural Park, Ngā Puna Wai was developed as Christchurch’s new home for community and performance sport following the Canterbury earthquakes. Once open parkland, it has been transformed into a purpose-built multi-sport hub, now home to leading sporting organisations including Christchurch Netball, Athletics Canterbury, Canterbury Hockey, Rugby League Canterbury, Tennis Canterbury, and Sport Canterbury.

Christchurch Netball at Ngā Puna Wai As one of the hub’s foundation partners, Christchurch Netball is proud to call Ngā Puna Wai home. The location reflects what this space represents connection, collaboration, and community. Here, we share a world-class environment with fellow sporting codes and welcome thousands of players, officials, and supporters each year to train, play, and thrive.
