Ormond helps moves Tysons East to top

The inclusion of Tysons East goal shoot Amber Ormond in the second quarter helped her side pick up a 62-54 over Inglewood in Taranaki premier netball on Thursday night.

The tall shooter showed her experience in the feature match at the TSB Stadium, as she extended a lead that Tysons had when she was bought on by coach Jane Parker. Parker left a several starting players on the bench.

Ormond scored 22 goals from 25 attempts with her height and accuracy proving the difference for her side in the live streamed match.

Prior to her arrival on court, Inglewood’s attack kept the five-time defending champions on their toes as the score line was tight throughout the match.

Early in the game, Inglewood’s defenders applied pressure as Alice Marshall and Hannah Sidler disrupted play and denied opportunities for a brief period.

Inglewood’s Grace Major and Sam Murphy shot from long range inside the circle to stay in the hunt after winning their first match of grading last week.

The margin extended for Tysons as wing attack Nikita Roberts linked well with Ormond, Tiaan Owen and Connie Clement throughout the match.

Despite drawing level in the third quarter, Tyson’s kept their composure and took a 45-37 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.

Tysons remain unbeaten after two rounds of competition play.

Tysons West remain in second place in spite of a 49-48 loss to New Plymouth Old Boys in the earlier game on Thursday night.

As it secured a bonus point, Tysons West take a one-point lead, two points off the lead.

Naumai bounced back from last week’s loss to Inglewood with a strong 62-34 win over New Plymouth Girls’ High School.

The win means there is a logjam at third place with Naumai, Inglewood and Old Boys all equal on three points.

In Premier Two action, Naumai is the only unbeaten team in the division with a two point lead over Sacred Heart Girls' College. 

Naumai pipped former Premier One side Stratford/Eltham 51-50 and Sacred Heart beat Raukura 52-29

Inglewood had a strong 48-30 win over Tukapa in the remaining match.

Premier Three sees Bell Block Marist Dragons on top after securing a healthy 61-45 win on Thursday.

Stratford/Eltham beat neighbours Inglewood 40-45 while the Inglewood and Hawera High Schools match has been deferred.
