WBOP Zone Player Pathways April Update

NNZ National Development Camps.

Pathways has had a great start to the year! We had 16 Secondary School players from our Zone invited to NNZ National Development Camps in January.  Our focus for this group of players over the last two years has been Fitter, Faster, Stronger players and they really stepped up at the NDC’s.

Our WBOP Zone players had the best average Bronco times and Yoyo scores out of all five Zones and the highest percentage of players reaching the 15.5 yoyo NZSS target. This is a credit to these player’s hard mahi over summer!

WBOP Synergy Hair Netball League Team.

April 13th saw the Synergy Hair Netball League begin with WBOP’s opening game at Hamilton’s Globox Arena. The team managed to secure a draw 49 all against the Northern Marvels in a game that see-sawed. WBOP players did have a high error rate though, so will look to reduce this as they head into their next match.

Player Identification at Centres.

We currently have confirmed 12 Centre Pathways Spotters from 23 WBOP Centres so am looking forward to working with them and beginning to view players at various events in preparation for our Magic in the Making Development sessions later in the year.

Magic in the Making (MIM) Programme.

I am pleased to announce our confirmed dates and venues for our three Magic in the Making (MIM) development sessions.  After player and Centre feedback we have changed the scheduling of these sessions in 2024 to be closer to the finish of UNISS to help players with their conditioning.  This has meant that we have shifted them into a very busy time with NNZ Open Champs, Zespri AIMS Games, Men’s Nationals and NZSS Champs all in the vicinity so we appreciate it will be a full part of the netball calendar.

MIM Development Sessions:

  • 15 September – Matamata Netball Centre
  • 21 September – Rotorua Netball Centre
  • 22 September – Hamilton City Netball Centre

MIM Advance Camp: 19 October – South Waikato Events Centre, Tokoroa
