WBOP Zone 2024 AGM and Centre Connect

Centre, Zone and NNZ personnel had a great day together on Saturday 23rd March at our WBOP Zone 2024 AGM and Centre Connect at Tauranga Netball Centre. We were thrilled to have Carole Maddix, former NNZ President, to Chair the AGM, with invited guests Jennie Wyllie, NNZ Chief Executive, and Tina Karaitiana, NNZ President, also in attendance.

Ruth Southwood, NNZ Head of Community and WBOP Appointed Administrator, presented the WBOP Zone Financial Report and Leigh Ashton, WBOP Zone Relationship Manager, presented the Annual Report Summary. There were no General Business items or remits, and we presented flowers to the following recipients:

  • Tina Karaitiana - NNZ President (presented by Pam Clayton, NNZ Umpire Panel and WBOP Zone Umpire Lead)
  • Sylvia Smith, Morrinsville - Queen’s Service Medal 2023 (presented by Mary Thompson MNZM, WBOP Life Member)
  • Pat Wyatt, Rotorua - Queen’s Service Medal 2023 (presented by Mary Thompson MNZM, WBOP Life Member)

After the conclusion of the WBOP Zone AGM, Jennie Wyllie shared a video with us celebrating NNZ’s Centenary this year and gave a short presentation about strategic priorities for NNZ including Customer Experience, Digital, and the Incorporated Societies Act (ISA) re-registration requirements. We took a break at this point to enjoy delicious lunch provided by Tracy Walters and her team at Tauranga Netball Centre.

Our Centre Connect session followed, with Aimee Te Whata, WBOP Zone Participation Activator, and Leigh Ashton faciliting a workshop around positive sideline behaviour and the impact of adults upon youth in sport. Resources from GoodSports, Balance is Better, and Positive Vibes Only were shared  and stories and ideas of what we can do in Centres to positively impact behaviour were discussed. Centres can contact WBOP Zone to access support/resources (for more information about GoodSports see here). WBOP Zone Staff also shared ideas for special projects in 2024 and 2025, and gathered attendees feedback on these.

Overall, it was a fantastic day!
