The WBOP Zone Skills, Learn and Play Development Day brought together players, coaches, and umpires from across the region for an inspiring day of learning and development at the Ōtorohanga Netball Centre in August. The event provided a valuable opportunity for participants to connect, share experiences, and develop their knowledge and skills in a supportive and engaging environment.

Players from Years 5 to 13 had the unique opportunity to learn from Magic captain Georgie Edgecombe and Magic assistant coach Rebecca Gabel. Through a series of interactive on-court sessions, participants were challenged to develop their decision-making and fundamental skills. Georgie and Rebecca shared their experiences from the elite level of the game, providing players with valuable insights while encouraging them to work hard, back themselves, and enjoy their netball journey.

Coaches also benefited from bespoke CCA1 workshops designed to support their ongoing development. These sessions provided practical tools, fresh ideas, and opportunities for discussion that attendees could take back and apply within their own centres and teams. The workshops reinforced the important role coaches play in creating positive and enjoyable experiences for participants at all levels of the game.

The day began with a NetballSmart session led by Sam Winders, who guided attendees through effective warm-up routines and key jump and landing techniques. The session highlighted the importance of movement preparation and injury prevention, helping participants build confidence in practising safe habits both at training and on game day.

Despite challenging weather conditions throughout the day, the enthusiasm and energy of everyone involved never wavered. Participants embraced every opportunity to learn, ask questions, and challenge themselves, creating a positive atmosphere that reflected the strength and passion of the netball community across the Waikato Bay of Plenty region.

Their contributions ensured the event was a memorable and rewarding experience for all involved, and a fantastic example of how coming together to learn and grow strengthens our netball community.
