Northland Rugby is delighted to announce the return of Ross Wright, a longstanding Taniwha player, to the team as the NPC Semco Taniwha Assistant Coach. After a remarkable playing career, Ross brings his wealth of experience and expertise to the coaching staff, further strengthening the Semco Taniwha team.
Ross Wright's playing career is highlighted by his exceptional performances on the field. As a key member of the NPC Northland Semco Taniwha from 2009 to 2022, Ross demonstrated his skill and commitment as a loose head prop and hooker, amassing an impressive 123 games for the team. His dedication and passion for the sport were evident, making him a valuable asset to the Taniwha.
Ross also had the honor of representing the New Zealand Māori All Blacks from 2017 to 2020, where he showcased his prowess as a loose head prop. Additionally, in 2018, Ross joined the Blues Super Rugby team, contributing as both a loose head prop and hooker, further solidifying his reputation as a versatile and talented player.
With his transition to coaching, Ross has continued to make a significant impact on the sport. In 2023, he served as the Scrum Coach for the Future Taniwha program, providing invaluable expertise to the development of young players. Ross's commitment to player development extends beyond the professional level, as he also assumed coaching responsibilities for the Wellsford Rugby Club Men's senior premier and division teams, serving as Head Coach, Forwards Coach, and Scrum Coach.
Reflecting on his new role as the NPC Semco Taniwha Assistant Coach, Ross Wright expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I am incredibly excited to return to the Taniwha, this time as a coach. Northland Rugby has always been close to my heart, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the team's success from a different perspective.
