President's Report:

Presidents Report It gives me great pleasure to present my Presidents report for the year 2022-2023. Well, covid is still an issue in our community but at least now there is minimal restrictions and disruptions to our lives and the sporting community. This is now a part of our everyday lives. The highlight of course was the celebration of Sport at our 2022 North Otago Sport Awards and our Hall of fame evening at the Lone and Merc Function Centre on March 13th. The evening started with the Oamaru Intermediate School Kapa Haka which was greatly received and set the scene for our celebration night. Dan Lewis was our compere this year and he performed a great job interacting with our award winners and encouraging them to say a few words. Our guest speaker Ben Lott was well received, and he spoke of his experience in the God Zone adventures and his serious life changing brain injury. He has had a huge journey and has been lucky enough to resume his passions after a lot of hard work. This year the Hall of Fame was announced by our Compere Dan Lewis and this was for Ave Luxon for all his contribution for Boxing. His career in this sport went over many decades and the contribution and results to the local boxing fraternity speaks for themselves. This award was collected by his daughter Kath Mercer who gave a lovely heart felt thanks for his recognition. His photo will now be placed on the Wall of Fame at the Rec Centre. The evening went very smoothly and it was great to see the wide variety of sports represented and Rowing and Rugby taking out the Major awards. The meal was catered by Sally Anne and her crew and once again was a very high standard. The atmosphere of the night was very professional and well delivered. Once again I believe this was a great success. A very special thank you to all our loyal sponsors as we all well know that without them events like this one could not happen. A big congratulations to all the winners and nominations as it takes dedication and a lot of hard training in all fields to get to these high standards and to achieve these types of results. Our second focus now is how we acknowledge the Volunteers as without these people we all know sport would not happen. Once again, this year we have continued to present a voucher to the recipient and there was also an article about their achievement in the local paper. Thanks, Pip you have made this happen and its great to celebrate the volunteers. I would like to thank all the committee for all their time and effort throughout the year and a special thank you to Pip you keep us on our toes and your contribution is massive and very well appreciated.
