It was a big day of local rugby as we took on Takapuna Rugby Club in a double header, with strong support on the sidelines and plenty of action across all grades.
Our Premier Development side burst out of the blocks in style, crossing for two tries inside the opening five minutes to set the tone early. What followed was a classic back-and-forth contest, with momentum swinging throughout and the lead changing hands multiple times.
With five minutes to play, we looked to have sealed it after taking the lead—only for Takapuna to strike back and edge ahead 31–29. But this group showed real composure and resilience. In the dying moments, a great line break from DJ Parker who scored the match-winning try, sealing a thrilling 36–31 victory.
Elsewhere in the grade, Northcote edged Silverdale, East Coast Bays got the better of Massey, and Kumeu were big winners over Glenfield.
In the second game of the day, our Premier side made another strong start before settling into a tough arm wrestle. Holding a narrow 16–15 lead at halftime, the contest was all on.
The second half saw us take control, finishing strongly with a couple of late tries—including one right on full time—to run out 41–22 winners.
There were standout performances across the park. Oskar Koller was influential, while our debutants impressed—Jake Rabarts looked assured early, and both Amaalani and Richie made strong contributions. Nyran Strickland was named Man of the Match, but the kudos went to the forward pack who laid the platform with a tireless, industrious effort throughout.
Elsewhere Mahurangi edged Helensville, while Northcote also got past Silverdale. Massey continued their strong run, making it three wins on the bounce after defeating ECB—setting up a must watch clash for us this coming weekend against Massey up there.
At home, our U85s had a real seesaw battle with East Coast Bays. It was a physical contest played at high intensity, with both sides trading blows throughout.
In the end, ECB just edged ahead late to take it 18–12, but there was plenty to like in the effort and intent shown. This side will see a lot more W's if thgey played with that passion.
Our U21s had the bye this week and will be looking forward to getting back into action next round.
A big thanks to the strong support - great to see plenty of green and white in the crowd, and back at the clubrooms making for a great atmosphere.
