Andre Cantin-Buckley Returns as Men’s Assistant Coach

North Wellington FC is pleased to confirm the appointment of Andre Cantin-Buckley as Assistant Coach for the Men’s First Team.

As we prepare for the 2026 season, strengthening our coaching group with individuals who understand the North Wellington environment was a priority. Andre returns to the club with a diverse coaching pedigree that spans local college football, regional top-flight women’s teams, and significant tournament success.

A Historic Connection

Andre is no stranger to the sidelines at Alex Moore Park. From 2020 to 2022, he was a key figure in our talent pathway, leading the U17 and U19 sides as well as the Men’s Reserves.

His time with our youth grades is marked by a landmark achievement in our club's history: leading the North Wellington U19s to victory at the Napier Under 19s tournament. It remains the only time our club has claimed this prestigious title, and it stands as a testament to his ability to develop and lead young talent at the highest level.

Recent Success and Regional Experience

Andre’s coaching journey has been defined by steady growth and recent silverware. He joins us fresh from a highly successful 2025 season with the Wellington United Women’s side, where he played a key role in winning the Women’s Central League title and securing a 3rd-place finish in the Women’s National League.

His wider experience includes three years in Switzerland with FC Bern and head coaching roles with the Onslow College 1st XI and Victoria University Women’s 1st team.

Commitment to Coaching Quality

The club is also proud to support the ongoing professional development of our staff. This week, both Andre and Head Coach Tate travel to Napier to begin their OFC/NZF A-Licence qualifications.

Having two coaches within the clubs environment pursuing the highest level of qualification in New Zealand football speaks to the depth of coaching quality at North Wellington FC and our ambition to provide the best possible environment for our players.

Looking Ahead

While pre-season training officially gets underway on 3rd February, Andre is already in contact with the senior men’s group to ensure a seamless transition into the new campaign alongside Curtis Jones.

"Looking forward to the season and very pleased to be part of the NW community again." — Andre Cantin-Buckley

We are excited to see the impact Andre’s championship-winning experience and deep understanding of our club's pathway will have on the squad this year.

Welcome home, Andre.
