MOURIE AND BORIC JOIN BOARD

Former All Blacks Graham Mourie and Anthony Boric were ratified to the Board of Directors of the New Zealand Rugby Foundation at yesterday's 29th AGM held at Alexandra Park in Auckland.

"It's great to have Goss (Mourie) and AB (Boric) join our board" said NZRF CEO Lisa Kingi-Bon "Both are fine rugby men that further add enthusiasm and experience to our board."

Earlier in the day the Board  voted unanimously in favour of the pair as part of The Foundation's succession planning. All present at the AGM affirmed the appointments.

Since finishing playing rugby in 1982 Mourie, All Black #757 has stayed heavily involved with rugby in the Wellington Region coaching the provincial team in 1997 before moving onto the Hurricanes role (1999-2002), before being appointed to the New Zealand Rugby Football board in 2004.

At the beginning of 2012, after being a World Cup winning All Black in 2011, Boric herniated a disc in his neck putting him out of Super Rugby for the remainder of the year. He underwent surgery to replace the disc with a metal one, but it was his confidence on the field that had taken the biggest hit. After fulfilling one season of a two year deal with the Japanese Mitsubishi Dynaboars.

“Mentally I was never really the same player,” he said. “I realised how vulnerable I was out on the field, I kept on thinking about the worst case scenarios of doing further damage and ending up in a wheelchair.”

The two men join a board that includes President Tane Norton, Chairman Gerard van Tilborg, Andy Leslie, John Leslie, Bryan Williams, David Latta, Dr John Mayhew, Mark Peters, Maurice Trapp, Simon Tremain, and Wayne Peters (NZRU rep).
