The New Zealand Tenpin Bowling Travel League was originally started in 1987 by teams from Wellington led by Ailsa Gill, Hastings led by Joe McCardell and Palmerston North led by Maurie Abrahams.

The Petone tenpin bowling club was asked to join them to make up an even number of teams.  They played in Napier in an old tin shed until a new bowling centre was opened in Hastings.

Two years later Ailsa Gill changed the Wellington teams name to Capital City to allow other teams to join from Wellington and a couple of years after this Palmerston North changed their name to Rose City.

The league gradually increased to its present number of ten teams with the inclusion of teams from Port View, Kapiti, Kapi Mana, Motueka, Wanganui and Harbour City.

This is a social league consisting of ten teams of eight people (4 Men & 4 Women) with each team being host team on a 30 month cycle.

Teams compete against each other for head to head individual points and combined team series points, working towards being named overall point’s winners and Champions at the conclusion of the year.
