From the outset of the season, all eyes were on the only two teams fighting it out for the Capital Premier Champions title - Wellington Olympic and their neighbours across the Park, Island Bay United.
The two teams won their first three games with Olympic ahead on goal difference until Round 4 when they met each other. Olympic dropped the ball losing 2-3 and Island Bay jumped to the top with a three point advantage.
Island Bay looked the competition favourites with 10 straight wins, Olympic having lost two in that same timeframe. An 11th Round Island Bay draw and then conceding their first loss in the 12th, the competition between the two Clubs heated up with Island Bay leading by a point.
Island Bay's second loss in Round 14 saw Olympic jump to the top of the ladder however tensions were brought to the fore in Round 15 when Olympic lost to Seatoun and Island Bay drew against Tawa.
With one point in it, Olympic were in a battle to the end and a single loss would be devastating.
With three games to the finish, neither team missed a beat and at the season's final whistle, Island Bay's dreams were dashed as the Greeks raised the prestigious Venus Shield in their first Capital Premier win.
Congratulations to the team on their historic victory!
