Specialised needs
Responding to specialised needs
Ōpōtiki College is an inclusive learning environment. Specialist support is available to students that need additional support to enable them to achieve success at school.
The Director of Inclusive Education oversees the development and operation of these programmes and facilities and can be contacted by email.
Te Ahurutanga
Te Ahurutanga is a wonderful space where students with different learning needs are catered for. Students are supported with a modified curriculum and have the assistance of teacher aids to support their individualised learning programmes. Emphasis is placed on the development of social and life skills and as students enter the senior year's work placements can be arranged as appropriate. Students participate in all main school events and are an integral part of our school. For further information please contact the Director of Inclusive Education.
Special Assessment Conditions (SAC)
A number of students require specific support and assistance with accessing NZQA assessments. This can be in the form of assistive technologies, reader/writers or extended time. This can be arranged where appropriate.
Literacy support
We have a specialist literacy programme to support students that are below or well below national standards/year level expectations. Students will either receive 1:1; small groups or literary option classes to assist with accelerating progress.
