New ORA Coach Support Role

It was a clear outcome from our Club consultation report earlier in the year that Otago is lacking in coaches and with this the availability of coach support. A key area of recommendation included developing coaches. With Coach Development being a strategic theme in our 2023-2028 ORA Strategic Plan about to be developed.

To date we have offered coach scholarships through the Meridian programme and this has included some much needed funds to our up-and-coming coaches and we have tried to assist with upskiling but this has been hard with our more senior Otago coaches being time poor and our most local RNZ coach educator becoming unavailable in 2022-23.

So ORA are going to fund and contract a Coach Educator/Support Person for our summer months Oct - Mar. This role will involve being in active contact with coaches at all ORA Club/Schools, It will include being on the ground at our local regattas, attending two Twizel regattas and visiting our regions. The person would support our scholarship coaches and run coach workshops.
