Flying out of a world-renowned gliding site in Omarama, our members have the opportunity to harness the natural energy from the interaction of sun, wind and our unique geography to soar above our stunning southern alps; its mountains, rivers, lakes, glaciers and the magnificent Aoraki Mount Cook. All without an engine!
If you join the Otago University Gliding Club you will receive emails regarding planned trips to Omarama, where you can give gliding a go! We apply for grant funding for each of the expected 4/5 yearly trips, to cover accomodation and travel costs.
If you attend one of these weekend trips, and are under 26, you pay only $102.50 for a year's membership to Gliding New Zealand, Omarama Gliding Club and Youth Glide New Zealand.
If you are under 26, you will then access get half-price membership rates and gliding expenses are entirely up to you and how much you fly! A high speed, thrilling winch launch will cost you only $28.50 and glider hire is maximum $1.25 per minute!
Once you've given it a go, the OUGC can help you through your training and show you all of what gliding has to offer.
