The Classics

The Classics are a series of World Challenger and National Permit events held around the country in January and February. This means that World Athletics ranking points are up for grabs for placegetters, meaning that the Classics attract (but are not limited to) the country’s best athletes.

The Classics include the following events:

  • Sat 6 Jan – Lovelock Classic – Timaru – National Permit Meet
  • Sat 20 Jan – Potts Classic 25th Anniversary Meet – Hastings – World Challenger
  • Sat 27 Jan – PAK’nSAVE Cooks Classic – Whanganui – World Challenger
  • Fri 2 Feb – Team Ledger Harcourts Capital Classic 20th Anniversary Meet – Wellington – World Challenger
  • Sat 3 Feb – Sola Power Throwers Meet – Lower Hutt – National Permit Meet
  • Sat 10 Feb – Porritt Classic Supported by Hamilton City Council – National Permit Meet
  • Sat 24 Feb – International Track Meet (ITM) – Christchurch – World Continental Tour Bronze
  • Sun 10 Mar – Sir Graeme Douglas International presented by Harcourts Cooper & Co – Auckland – World Continental Tour Bronze

Each of these events has its own entry requirements: for some events, entry standards will apply (i.e., an athlete must have attained a certain performance in order to register). The same variation applies for registration fees.

More information on each event is available on the Athletics NZ website, so please check the specific requirements for each event before registering:
