"A Day to Remember" 2nd April 2022
10 Keen members travelled to Timaru for a day's fishing as crew members on a commercial fishing vessel Korua.
We travelled on Friday and some of us were treated to "Sparrow's" hopitalty with a selection of home brew on Tap and wonderful venison burgers.
Up at 3.15am for a 4.00 departure from Timaru saw us all safely aboard and heading for a 31/2 hr journey to the captains secret spot for a morning of groper fishing.
It was all on from the very first drop, groper coming aboard everywher. All sorts of gear was used from electric rod and reels to light jigs. They all worked and by 12.00 it was time to head home and start filleting.
We were all allowed our recreational quota and the rest went to the boat for sale in the fish markets of the world.
We caught 160 groper, 2 greyboys, one big blue shark, a few blue cod, perch and one solitary terakhi, so everyone went home happy with a good feed for the famiy
