Ponsonby has been a significant force in women's rugby in New Zealand almost from day one. More than 50 players from Ponsonby have been chosen to play for Auckland A; the general agreement among New Zealand's statisiticans is that first-class records for women's rugby started with the introduction on the NPC in 1999.
