In 1997, AUT University entered into an agreement with Ponsonby Rugby Club (PRC) to provide fully fee paid scholarships for members and players to enable them to achieve those roles and opportunities.

The scholarship program has been successful and since that time, there have been over 76 recipients with some 47 graduates (including nine with 2 or 3 qualifications) in a wide range of degrees, diplomas and certificates and post graduate programs.

At present there is an annual fee paying PRC-AUT scholarship to recognise and reward the achievement and leadership potential of Maori and Pasifika members of the PRC intending to complete a qualification at AUT.
