Pickleball was created to be a fun, competitive, and highly social sport. Since its inception, it has embodied an ethic of good sportsmanship that includes respect, fair play, and graciousness in winning and losing.
The goal of the Queenstown Pickleball Club (QPC) is to promote and grow the sport of pickleball in a safe, inclusive and respectful manner and as a member of the QPC, players agree to conduct themselves in a respectful and responsible manner both on and off the court.
PLAYERS WILL
Exhibit fair play*
Respect all players, officials, volunteers, staff, and spectators.
Respect all committee member’s instructions as they are the organisers of the day’s play
Respect all private and QPC property.
Ensure that conversation, behaviour and language are appropriate for public facilities.
Wear clothing that is safe and appropriate, including footwear.
Refrain from verbal or physical abuse, including any form of harassment or coercion.
Refrain from any behaviour that may endanger the health, safety or wellbeing of others.
*Fair play involves adhering to - and respecting – pickleball rules and the club’s etiquette, and making accurate and sportsmanlike calls, such as:
Calling shots that land on your side of the court, promptly and accurately. If in doubt, a call must be resolved in favour of the opponent – any ball that cannot be called out with certainty is considered in.
A player promptly acknowledges foot faults, kitchen faults, if a ball touches any part of their body or clothing, or if the ball bounces twice.
As a stronger player in social play, be kind to other players and avoid hitting excessively to a weaker player or slam the ball directly at other players.
Be considerate about playing up and playing down and be willing to play sometimes with less-skilled players.
If there is disagreement about the pickleball rule(s) that apply in a given situation, then the point should be replayed.
