Rally Bay of Plenty in its current form is the evolution of the original Tauranga Clubman's Rally, first run in 2007. Run by MotorSport Bay of Plenty Inc, it was very popular as a Clubman's rally and was run in this form until 2017. 2020 was a step up, running as a full national rally, with more distance and based out of Whakatane.
This was as a shakedown for becoming a full Championship round for the following year. In 2021 however, Auckland was locked down again and given that many competitors had to come from there, or farther north, the decision was taken to cancel the rally that year. 2023 saw the rally back, and this time as the final round of the New Zealand Rally Championship. The Start in Whakatane and the finish in Mt Maunganui.
A big event for the first time being part of the National Championship. MBOP decided the Rally needed to run under its own organisation and moves were made to incorporate Rally Bay of Plenty Inc. This was completed this year. And so we bring you the 2024 Rally Bay of Plenty.
