Turakina Valley Walks 11/5/24
For our May Tramp, we opted for the warmer climate of the Turakina Valley, after the freezing weather made the original plan for walks in Ohakune look less desirable. We had a small team of 4 people complete 3 tracks up the valley. First up was the Sutherlands Turakina Reserve, where we completed the longer blue track around the perimeter of the reserve, and then it was off to Sutherlands Archies Track, which was rather overgrown until we got inside the forest, but still navigable. The loop through the forest was still in good condition. Last up was the Sutherland Mangahoe Reserve, which had just reopened after the access bridge had been replaced, after being washed away in late 2020.

Manawatu Gorge 27/4/24
Our first tramp back after a short break, was at the Manawatu Gorge. We had 7 trampers enjoying fantastic weather as we tramped to the Windmill lookout near the midway point of the gorge track. Coming back down we ventured down the other side of the Tawa Loop Track to add a bit of variety. We had a stop for ice cream after we got back into Ashhurst.

Lake Rotokare Trip 20/1/24
We had 5 and a half people attend the trip to Lake Rotokare Scenic Reserve on Wellington Anniversary Weekend. The plan was to walk the lakeside track in the morning then either the ridge track or lakeside track again in the afternoon. But the threatened weather forecast forced a change of plains with only a one walk for the day. That being a choice of either the lakeside or ridge track, with 4 plus 1 in a carry pack doing the lakeside track and only 1 person doing the ridge track. Light Rain fell when we started but that soon cleared up for the rest of the time while we were at the lake. Leaving for home early in the afternoon as very dark clouds were heading our way, After stopping for Ice Cream at Normanby we were hit with a torrential downpour so was a slow and cautious drive back until the weather cleared again.
Tutaenui Reservoir Walk 2/1/24
On the day after New Year, we headed over to Marton to walk the Tutaenui Reservoir Walk, for this family friendly outing we had 14 people in fantastic weather, We walked counter clockwise with everyone walking both lakes.
Castlecliff to Kai Iwi Beach Walk 28/10/23
We had 4 tramping group members join Fortify Youth on their beach walk from Castlecliff to Kai Iwi. Great weather led to an enjoyable walk for all. A BBQ at Kai Iwi followed the walk.
Old Blyth Track to Waitonga Falls 14/10/23
We had 7 trampers for our first tramp in 8 months. A change in the weather forecast called for a last-minute change in plans, instead of heading to Manawatu we headed up Ruaephu. Starting under overcast skies, we made our way up the Old Blyth Track, which was fairly heavily rooted and muddy in places. A few spits of rain when we got to the top of the hill but not enough to have to put on the raincoats... yet. Arrived at Waitonga Falls right at lunchtime, it was during our lunch break when the weather hit! but thankfully we were sheltered from most of the wind and rain in the forest, only getting hit on the section of track that was out in the open beside Rotokawa Tarn's. We decided to walk back down the road due to the conditions.
