Weekend / Main Walks & Tramps

Westmere Lake Walk / King's Birthday Walk (Easy)
DATE: Monday 2nd June

MEETING LOCATION: Westmere Lake car park on Rapanui Rd
DIFFICULTY: Easy

Join us on the Monday of King's Birthday Weekend for a walk around Westmere Lake. The Westmere Lake Track is a short 2km bush walk that encircles the Lake. It is also a wildlife refuge, which means that hopefully we will see plenty of birdlife. As it's a short track, we will go a couple of times around the lake, but it's up to you how many laps you complete


Wilkies Pools - Dawson Falls Loop Walk (Easy-Mod)
DATE: Saturday 7th June
TIME: 8.30am
MEETING LOCATION: COI car park

COST: $20 (for transport)
DOGS ALLOWED: No
Join us for this short winter tramp up Mt Taranaki. This loop walk takes us through the goblin forest of Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki (Egmont National Park) and past many waterfalls including Wilkies Pools & Dawson Falls

Gordons Park & Strachan's Cave (Easy)

MEETING LOCATION: Gordon Park's Car Park on Kaimatira Road

DOGS ALLOWED: Yes (only at Gordon's Bush)
We have two walks for this event, first up is an easy bush walk at Gordon Park Scenic Reserve. Then it is off to Strachan's Cave located up Kaukatea Valley. Come for both walks or just come for the short walk at Gordon's Bush


Winter Road Trip - Tokaanu Thermal Pools (Easy & Easy/Mod)
DATE: Friday 20th June
TIME: tbc
MEETING LOCATION: COI car park
LEADER: Willem & Emma-Jane
COST: $30 (for transport) + $8 - $14 (for Tokaanu Thermal Pools)
DOGS ALLOWED: No
This trap takes on a journey around the central North Island. We'll have a few walks and stop for a dip in the Tokaanu Thermal Pools (Optional)

South Beach Walk (Easy & Easy/Mod)
DATE: Sunday 29th June
TIME: 2pm
MEETING LOCATION: South Beach Car Park (end of the gravel road past the airport)
LEADER: Carl
DOGS ALLOWED: Yes 
This loop beach walk takes us along South Beach for about 4kms before looping back using dune tracks. A shorter option is available of only walking with us as far as the Kaitoke Stream before turning back (self-guided)


Deer Park - Virginia Lake Loop Walk (Easy)
DATE: Sunday 13th July
TIME: 3pm
MEETING LOCATION: At the deer sanctuary at Peat Park
LEADER: Emma-Jane
DOGS ALLOWED: Yes (you will need to skip the Virginia Lake Part of the walk)
Join us for this walk, which takes us on a loop of St John's Hill walkways from the deer sanctuary, up to Virginia Lake and back


Woodville Tramps (Easy/Mod)
DATE: Saturday 19th July
TIME:8.30am
MEETING LOCATION: COI car park

COST: $15 (for transport $10 for U16)

We have two short tramps for this trip, first is the Ballance Bridge loop of the Manawatu Gorge Track, then it's a bush walk in the Awapikopiko Reserve

Whanganui East Walk (Easy & Easy/Mod)
DATE: Saturday 27th July
TIME: 1.30pm
MEETING LOCATION: Kowhai Park near the intersection of Anzac Pde & Mt View Rd
LEADER: Willem

This walk encircles the suburb of Whanganui East and then climbs up to the water tower on Basita Hill. Shorter option will be available, but they will have self-guided sections


Mid-week Walks


Virginia Lake Walk (Easy)
DATE: Thursday 3rd July
TIME: 2pm
MEETING LOCATION: Main car park for Virginia Lake

For the first of the mid-week walk's we will head to Virginia Lake and walk around the lakeside tracks


MSJ Walkway - Christies Hill Loop (Easy)
DATE: Thursday 10th JulyTIME: 2pm
MEETING LOCATION:  At the deer sanctuary at Peat Park
LEADER: Willem
DOGS ALLOWED: Yes
This loop walk runs from the deer sanctuary to the entrance of the MSJ Walkway on Wanaka Street, through the wetlands, then back to the deer sanctuary via the Christies Hill Walkway


River Walkway - Dublin St Bridge to Russell Street (Easy)

DATE: Thursday 24th July
TIME: 2pm
MEETING LOCATION:  Cornmarket Reserve near the roundabout
LEADER: Willem
DOGS ALLOWED: Yes
For the mid-week walk this week, we will have a short walk on the new-ish walkway along the river that run's up the river from Dublin Street Bridge to near Russell Street

For our out of town trips we meet at the car park for Church on Ingestre, which is on the Cnr Ingestre & Campbell Streets, let us know if you need a ride to the car park. We can also pick up en route. The toilet at COI may not always be available.

TRANSPORT (for out of town trips)
We use our private vehicles for transport. The event organizers select the Vehicles and drivers before the event. If you would like to take your vehicle, please email ASAP so the organizer knows your vehicle is available. We prefer drivers for our events to have attended a few events before driving and to have held a full NZ driver's license for 2 years
