Rongotai College has a decorated basketball programme. National Champions in 1980, the school has also frequently won the Lower North Island Championship. Rongotai proudly boasts Two Former Tall Blacks as alumni - Chris Tupu & Troy McLean.
We offer both 3x3 and traditional basketball. 3x3 basketball is a fast-paced, half-court basketball form. Teams are available to students with different abilities and commitment levels. Depending on the team's ability and competitiveness, training frequency will vary.
Weekly Competitions
Traditional full-court basketball is in Terms 2 and 3. Rongotai College enters teams into College Sport Wellington local competitions.
Junior Basketball: Tuesdays, starting from May 6
Senior Basketball: Fridays, starting from May 9
Matches are at multiple venues across the Greater Wellington Region, including various school gymnasiums, the Walter Nash Centre and the Akau Tangi Sports Centre.
Events & Tournaments
In summer, Rongotai enters 3x3 teams into local and regional tournaments. In Winter, our Junior and Senior A teams will compete at a Regional Tournament during Winter Tournament Week. Senior A also play traditional fixtures against historical rivals.

Cost
Participation in Basketball incurs a 'playing fee' of $110 to cover operating expenses. Students who participate in Regional and National Championships will be charged for additional expenses. To set up a payment plan, contact the school office immediately.
