Rongotai College was formed in 1928 and has remained at the current location since.

The college has offered rugby as a sport since 1928 and played their first fixture against Wellington College on 9 June that year.  While that game was a loss the college recorded it's first win the following week on 16 June.

Over the years Rongotai has enjoyed a strong rugby programme and has, at times, competed in the Wellington U19 competitions with Wellington College, St Patricks College and St Patricks Silverstream.

The rugby programme at the college really benefits from the number of old boys who return to give their time to the younger generation of players and embody the school motto Lumen Accipe et Imperti (receive the light and pass it on).

Term 2 and 3

Rugby Union is a popular sport at Rongotai College and a number of All Blacks, Kiwis and International players have come through the Rongotai rugby programme including Julian and Ardie Savea, Joesph Tapine and Ma'a Nonu among many others.

Rugby within the school is adminitstered by the WRFU appointed RAIS (Rugby Administrators in Schools) . Depending on registrations, Rongotai will look to enter a 1st and 2nd XV, U15s, 65kg and 55kg teams in the local competitions.

All boys are required to attend a weigh in with the RAIS at school. Dates and times to be confirmed through the morning notices. All rugby players are expected to take advantage of the strength and conditioning provided through the athletics programme in Term 1.

Rugby requires parental assistance in the form of coaching, managing and transportation. Teams without adequate parental support will be pulled from the competition.

Only boys registered and paid by March 31 will be allowed to play in 2021. Automatic Payments can be set up through the school office. If you foresee any payment issues contract the RAIS or Director of Sport Immediately.
