Sport at Rongotai College

Rongotai College recognises the role of sport and co-curricular activities in providing students with valuable learning experiences outside of the classroom. The College has a proud history of involvement in sport but all students should remember our number one priority is education. It is expected that all players will meet their academic requirements in all classes and maintain a high level of attendance.

ALL Sport (Summer and Winter) registrations close from Friday February 5th. There will be a Sport Registration Day at school on Thursday 5th February.

Please find our code of conduct below for both students and parents/caregivers. ​​​​​​

As a parent/caregiver, I agree to:

  • Pay all required fees promptly and in their entirety.
  • Encourage fair play and sportsmanship
  • Model good behaviour at all times, including being verbally, physically or emotionally abusive towards the opposition, other parents, students or officials
  • Respect the various reasons students play sport​​​​​​​
  • Respect the decisions made by coaches, captains and officials, whether you agree with them or not. 

As a player, I agree to:

  • ​​​​​​​Ensure I am registered and paid on time
  • Always do my best
  • Consider my own and my peer's enjoyment of sport
  • Attend all trainings and games 
  • Appreciate the support of parents, volunteers, school and the community
  • Play fair and by the rules
  • ​​​​​​​Not show dissent or abuse any other player, official or supporters

National and Regional Representatives


Rongotai has a strong tradition of achieveme​​​​​​​nt in many sporting codes and is proud of its many provincial and national representatives, such as All Whites (Wynton Rufer, Shane Rufer, Billy Harris and Chris Killen), All Blacks (Graham Williams, Mick Williment, Clive Currie, Ofisa Junior Tonu’u, Ma’a Nonu, Julian Savea and Ardie Savea), Tall Blacks (Chris Tupu and Troy McLean), NZ Rugby League (Sione Faumuina), Black Sticks (Mitesh Patel) and Black Caps (Ian Smith, Bruce Edgar and Jeetan Patel) among many others.

If your son is selected for any full/age group national or regional representative honours, we would love to hear about it so we can acknowledge them appropriately.

Sporting Codes offered at Rongotai

Rongotai College has a proud history of competing on the national and local stage in a wide range of codes. The College offers around 25-30 sporting codes each year depending on interest and support. For a list of sports, please click the registrations link. We encourage all students to be involved in at least one sport per season and aim to provide opportunities for the elite competitor to the absolute beginner.

Traditional Fixtures

​​​​​​​Rongotai College plays traditional annual matches in a number of different codes against the following rival colleges: Wellington College, St Patrick’s College (Town), St Patrick’s College (Silverstream), St Bernards College, Tu Toa, Wairarapa College and Nelson College.
