"A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way."

Real Life
Nigerian-Greek basketballer Giannis Antetokounmpo plays for the Milwaukee Bucks and is regarded as one of the greatest power forwards in NBA history.
He began playing with youth teams in Athens and joined the senior squad of Filathlitikos in 2011. Just two years later, he was drafted 15th overall by the Bucks, launching a standout NBA career built on athleticism, strength, and relentless work ethic. New to the NBA, Antetokounmpo steadily developed his skills and earned the nickname "The Greek Freak." His rise to superstardom peaked in 2021 when he led the Bucks to their first NBA championship since 1971 and was named Finals MVP after scoring 50 points in Game 6.
Growing up in Greece, Antetokounmpo saw his Nigerian immigrant parents struggle to provide for their family. Determined to help, he showed the heart of a servant leader early on - motivated not by fame, but by love and responsibility. Often practicing on an empty stomach, he poured himself into basketball as a way to support those he loved. That same humility and work ethic still define him today. Known for training even after games, he leads by example. As teammate Pat Connaughton said, “He works as if he's a second-round role player, but his talent is that of an MVP.” His “people-first” approach - building genuine relationships with teammates - has inspired and lifted the entire team’s standard.
While leadership is often associated with power and control, the Bible presents a different model - servant leadership, where the focus is on the growth, wellbeing, and care of others. One of the most compelling examples of this is David, the humble shepherd who became a King.
David’s leadership was marked by humility, courage, and a heart for others. As a young shepherd, he protected his flock with faithfulness. When he faced Goliath, it wasn’t for personal glory, but to defend God’s people. Even as King, he showed mercy to his enemies, listened to the voices of others, and took full responsibility when he failed, showing a deep desire to grow. He led not through power, but through service, creating a culture where people felt safe, valued, and inspired.
A servant leader is less concerned with status and more focused on lifting others up, creating space for growth, unity, and lasting impact.
This week, consider how you can serve the people around you - whether it’s helping with a task, offering encouragement, or simply being present. Choose to lead with love, humility, and a heart for others.
Bible Verse
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves
Philippians 2:3
Prayer
Thank you for showing me the best way to serve others - not with power and control but with selflessness and love. Lord, help me to serve others before I serve myself.
