Northern region is covered by two Regional Leaders: Jacolize Becker for Auckland North.

Jacolize Becker

Originally from South Africa, Jacolize is known for her big heart, friendly demeanour, and approachable personality. Her passion for connecting with people and her love for sport makes Jacolize an invaluable asset to the SCNZ team and the sporting communities she’s involved in.

Jacolize is a sports enthusiast at heart, with Athletics being her favourite, but she's also a fan of other sports - even watching UFC with her husband and sons!

When she’s not proudly wearing the SCNZ logo, Jacolize is dabbling in photography, painting her most recent landscape photo, or if you want to find her in her happy place, head straight to the ocean! Whether it's swimming, kayaking, or just lounging on the beach, Jacolize loves any activity she can do in, on, or next to the water.

And we are currently looking for a Regional Leader for Auckland South.

Focussing on other committments, Onosai Auva'a is moving on from SCNZ. As a result, we are looking for a new Regional Leader for Auckland South to proactively lead SCNZ’s movement and strategy within the region toward the vision of a placed Sports Chaplain for every sports community.

We are looking for someone who can build on the excellent work that others in the region have already begun, taking SCNZ in this region to the next level. You will need to adopt new leadership structures to accomodate growth, have a caring concern for those you lead, and have faith in God for funding.

2024 Trainings

Don't miss out on the opportunity to become a Sports Chaplain. Completing your training through our Sports Chaplaincy New Zealand training programme is mandatory and covers all foundational material needed to become an SCNZ accredited Sports Chaplain. This a blended learning experience with an online course covering 22 topics and 1 day in-person workshop. The online component takes approximately 20 hours to complete.

We have completed all training cohorts for 2024, however, if becoming a Sports Chaplain intrests you, or you would like more information get in touch!

Workshops - absolute highlights!

In 2023, we had nine new chaplains train and each brought their own flare, personality, and faith background. We really value coming together in fellowship for Stronger Together meetings, and workshops, as we learn so much about our new team mates, and hear more about their cultures and backgrounds.

Our workshops are a great way to connect personally and learn through discussion and scenarios.

SCNZ Facebook

We have a national Facebook page where there are posts about what we are up to as an organisation, updates on all regions around New Zealand, inspirational material, and details around training and workshops.

This page is for everyone - please don't hesitiate to click that follow button! Our national SCNZ page here.

Other SCNZ Leaders in the region

Based in Auckland, Matt Hawkins is our Training and Operations Manager. He brings with him a background in Human Resource Management, Law, and Christian Ministry, so we know that if it has come through Matt - it's legal and well thought-out!

Among a vast array of other achievements, Matt has 10 years of human resource experience, equal experience in chaplaincy, and has recently completed his Masters in Chaplaincy through the University of Otago. Matt oversees the training of all new Sports Chaplains, and runs in-person workshops which help them become accredited and ready to serve.

If he's not in the office running the background of SCNZ, Matt is out tramping with his family, supporting all four of his multi-talented son's in their expansive careers, or working on a DIY job!
