Biography:

Lucas Ball was born in Canada and moved to Nelson in 2019 with his family. He is part of a high-achieving skiing family; his three siblings are also competitive skiers. Lucas hops between season in Cardrona and British Columbia (Silverstar). 

Lucas  started competing in 2023 in FIS level competitions. He had his first big event win at the Australia New Zealand Cup in Big Air in 2024. He also came 2nd in Freeski Slopestyle. Having toured extensively in 2025 he achieved a World Cup breakthrough finishing 6th at the FIS Freeski Big Air World Cup in Secret Garden, China. He then represented New Zealand at the 2025 FIS Freestyle World Championships in Engadin, Switzerland in Big Air.  

Lucas was one of the youngest competitors at the Milano Cortina Winter Games coming 20th in Freeski Slopestyle and 24th in Freeski Big Air. Lucas also competed in the FIS Junior World Ski Championships in 2026, coming 2nd in Freeski Big Air and 2nd in Freeski Slopestyle. He is considered an emerging star on the NZ Freeski scene, competing at a level far beyond his years.
