GET ACTIVE
Play is spontaneous, tamariki-led and directed, freely chosen with no pre-determined outcome, fun, accessible. Challenging, social and repeatable.
It is usually highly active with elements of challenge and risk that test boundaries in an imaginative way. Play allows tamariki the space to practice, learn and develop the skills they need to be active for life including fundamental movement skills, self-directed creativity adn innovation, social and emotional connections, resilience, independence, leadership and informed risk taking.
Children have the right to play and this is encapsulated in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child -Article 31: “That every child has the right to rest and leisure to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts”.
This resource is designed to inspire and guide you in incorporating outdoor play activities that foster creativity and exploration in your children. Get ready to explore, create, and let your child’s imagination run wild in the stunning landscapes of the MidCentral region.
