INCLUSIVE PASTORAL CARE

Pastoral care recognises the dignity of each person within the St Mary’s College community.

Through the pastoral care network, students are encouraged to set and achieve their personal and academic goals and to strive for high standards.
This gives students a sense of belonging to a strong sisterhood where needs are met as  they progress through the college.
The well-being of every student is followed by the kaiako, (teacher of ako classes), peer support leaders, subject teachers and deans.
The Pastoral Care team includes a Guidance counsellor, a supportive Learning support team and Transition Advisor.

Inspiring Leadership

Developing student leadership is an important focus. Students are offered many opportunities for positive leadership experience within a supportive environment at all year levels.

At Year 13, a Head Girl and her team of Deputy Head Girls are assigned a leadership area depending on their interests, skills, experience and strengths.
Areas of leadership include Special Character, Arts and Culture, Year level leaders and, House and Sport Captain’s. Year 13’s girls can also be Peer Support leaders or elected onto the Board of Trustee’s (BOT) as a student representative.
Our peer support programme gives senior students an opportunity to support the Year 9 students and build positive relationships between the year levels.
Each year level has two Year 13 leaders who provide support for the students, working with them to organise events throughout the year and ensuring the overall well-being of students. This gives the students opportunities to form relationships and have fun outside of the classroom.
