MERCY IN ACTION

Here at St Mary’s we endeavour to raise the awareness of students to the needs of the world around us.  We see this as an important aspect of our Mercy heritage. Catherine McAuley, the foundress  of the Sisters of Mercy, started her work meeting the needs of the poor of Dublin.  Her missionary work spread throughout the world and down to New Zealand.

St Mary’s students are encouraged to be constantly aware of the needs of those around them and to respond to these needs with some kind of action. This may take the form of collecting Easter eggs to be distributed to the children’s ward at the hospital, donating to St Vinnies or the food bank, or raising money to buy baby clothes for single mothers.

One of our main areas of social action is to support Caritas and to promote its work for the Church. To find out more about this organisation please see their website at www.caritas.org.nz.
