ELIGIBILITY PROCESS

For competitive high performance players who are not New Zealand born there is a process if the player wishes to become eligible to represent New Zealand in ITTF and ITTF-Oceania events.

"Since 1st September 2008 a rule for eligibility at the World Title events is in force. The rule applies only to World Title events, specifically the World Table Tennis Championships, the World Junior Table Tennis Championships, the World Cups (Men’s, Women’s and Team), the ITTFContinental Cups and those ITTF-Continental Championships where the respective Continental Federation follows the ITTF World Title eligibility rule. The wording of the rule is as follows:

In addition to the provisions of 3.8 (the general rule of eligibility), players who have acquired a new nationality and wish to represent the association corresponding to the new nationality shall register with the ITTF, through this new association. Click here

Such players shall not represent the new association before:

• 3 years after the date of registration, if the player is under the age of 15 when registered;

• 5 years after the date of registration, if the player is under the age of 18 but at least 15 years of age when registered;

• 7 years after the date of registration, if the player is under the age of 21 but at least 18 years of age when registered.

  •  9 years after the date of registration, if the player is at least 21 years old when registered.
