Want to try BMX ?

New riders are always welcome at Manukau Taniwha BMX Club. We have riders from 5 years old to over 50.

For riders who have no experience of BMX, it is best to start with our training session for new riders. This is on Thursdays from 5:15 - 6:15pm (during daylight saving only). Our club night racing follows after that.

Please note, our Thursday sessions only run during daylight savings months as we don't have flood lights.

If you are new, or need to hire gear you will need to arrive by 5:00pm.

What you will need to wear

BMX is an action sport so protective gear is mandatory. To ride on a BMX track you must have

  • A full-face helmet
  • Long sleeved top
  • Long pants
  • Shoes with socks that cover the ankles
  • Full finger gloves to protect hands

Elbow pads are recommended.

Membership

You will need to complete our membership form and choose the "Have-a-go" option before your rider can participate. Riders 16yrs and over can complete their own membership form.

Cost

Our "Have-a-go" membership is $35. This lets a rider participate in four Thursday Training and Club Nights. Payment is required on the second visit, so the first time is free. (Please note that the membership form will need to be completed before a rider can participate).

It includes bike hire, helmet hire and gloves.

It can be upgraded to a standard membership at the end of 3 weeks. The standard membership will be discounted by $25 when upgrading.

Click on the Join Now button at the top of the page to sign up.

Hire Gear

The club has a limited amount of gear available for hire to non-members.

  •   Bikes  $10
  •   Full face helmets and gloves $5
  •   Elbow and knee pads $2

Please do not take any club gear off site.

Buying a BMX Race Bike

To start off any bike can be used, but they must not have pegs or stands. They must also be in good condition and have a hand/lever brake on the rear wheel (not pedal brakes) that works well. This is for the safety of all riders.

Please see the info under "Buying a BMX Race Bike" on the top right of this page.
