Tauranga Bay of Plenty Petanque Club Inc.

Welcome to Tauranga BoP Petanque Club Inc.

New members are always welcome as it is a great fun sport for anyone of any age.

The "boule de petanque" is a metal ball, which weights 650g to 800g (roughly 22.9 to 28.2 ounces) and of a diameter of 70.5 mm to 80 mm (roughly 2.78 to 3.15 inches).

The boule is throwned from a standing position in a ring and has to stop as closely as possible to the "cosh". But remember to throw a petanque boule correctly, the most important rule is to keep both feet on the ground inside the starting circle until the boule hits the floor.

Scoring is as in bowls: as many closest to the cochonet (or "cosh") of the 'holding' team counts. Games are played to 13 points or to a time limit. On club days, all games are drawn so there is a good mix of players and competition.

Tauranga Bay of Plenty Petanque Club is affiliated to Petanque NZ (PNZ) and to Auckland Petanque Association (APA) (time to time the Club hosts National and Regional Tournaments).

We play under the national body rules supplied by FIPJP (Federation Internationale de Pétanque et Jeu Provencal, the world umbrella) https://fipjp.org/images/2021/reglements/Official_Rules_Petanque-En.pdf
