Welcome to Tauranga Petanque
New members are always welcome as it is a great fun sport for anyone of any age. The petanque boule is a ball of steel, between 650g and 750g thrown from a standing, squatting or anything in between stance to land as closely to the jack as possible.
Scoring is as in bowls - as many closest to the ‘jack’ of the 'holding' team counts. Games are played to 13 points or to a time limit. On club days, all games are drawn so there is a good mix of players and competition.
The Tauranga Bay of Plenty Petanque Association is affiliated to Petanque NZ (PNZ). We play to the national body rules supplied by FIPJP (Federation Internationale de Pétanque Jeux Provencaux the world umbrella), which are available on their website. We also host PNZ national tournaments.
We are affiliated to the Auckland Petanque Association (APA) and host APA Regional tournaments.
