Home crowd boosts Tauranga to revenge victory over Marist

Tauranga's Amanda Lemon rises up for a shot against Marist Magic in the Honda National League

The Tauranga Body in Motion women’s team took down Marist Magic in convincing fashion on Saturday, recovering from a disappointing loss in penalty shoot-out just two weeks ago.

The side was on the hunt from the win from the get-go, stretching their lead throughout the game with strong performances up and down the pool.

By the full-time whistle it was a comfortable 15-7 victory for the home team.

The side was loudly and proudly cheered on by the home crowd in the first of four games for the club at Baywave over the weekend.

“A huge thanks goes to the crowd and our sponsors and everyone who showed up this weekend, playing in front of a packed stand is fantastic” head coach Lionel Randall said.

Tauranga warms up for the clash with Marist at Baywave on Saturday.

Sunday saw the team take on defending champions North Harbour who are the only team in the competition with undefeated status.

After a rest day on Saturday with no games, North Harbour came out of the blocks quickly and would maintain the lead for the rest of the game.

Despite a promising comeback in the second quarter, the home side couldn’t quite recover.

“The girls had 13 extra player opportunities and 27 missed shots so we created every opportunity.”

Finishing those opportunities will be key for the women’s side, should they meet North Harbour later in the season – it’ll be on finals weekend if so.

“I back my girls; they’re awesome I’m really proud of them”.

The weekend’s win and loss means Tauranga keeps its spot of third on the table.

The next round sees Tauranga take on Atlantis City in Auckland on Saturday, before a home game against Hibiscus Coast on Sunday prior to the men’s match against Marist.
