After an indifferent start with some fine drizzle, the clouds cleared away and the sun came out for the 2024 Summerset Women's Over 60s Triples Gala.  After two late scratchings due to illness, 26 teams from Paraparaumu Beach to Miramar took to the greens to contest this season's event, generously sponsored again by Summerset on the Landing.  But it wasn't just bowls on offer with a bake sale of goodies made by club members and of course, the raffles.  In what turned out to be a very successful day, the event raised a net $2501 for the club.

The format of the event involved splitting the entries into two pools which then played two rounds on one green before swapping greens for a further two rounds.  That way, every team got two games each on the grass and carpet.

Placings were decided on the number of wins, ends won and points differential but even this wasn't sufficient to separate Jenny Kempthorne, Karen Pincott & Janice Kane from Massey Ave and the composite team of Barb Pilkington, Gill Oliver & Marlene Alberino Kay in 3rd= who finished with 3 wins, 22 ends and +19 differential.  Two more teams also finished with 3 wins and 22 ends but their differentials of +17 and +14 saw them finish 5th and 6th.

Second with 3.5 wins, 19 ends and +13 differential were Val Fitzmaurice, Robyn Carter & Carole Bartlett from Petone Central.  The only team to win all 4 games with 30 ends and +59 differential to claim 1st place were Pat Povey, Nanette Crowe & Linda Rayner from Tawa.  Full results are available at Tawa Events.

Shelley from Summerset on the Landing was on hand to present the prizes and admire the club's new uniform with Summerset being the sole sponsor of our jacket.

Thanks to Brian, Shelley and Trevor for the photos taken during the event.
